1. The Argenta Child Theme

First of all, what is a Child Theme?

A Child Theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme.

What is the point of using a Child Theme?

§  If you modify a theme directly and it is updated, then your modifications may be lost. By using a child theme you will ensure that your modifications are preserved.

§  Using a child theme can speed up development time.

§  Using a child theme is a great way to learn about WordPress theme development.

How does it work?

A WP theme usually consists of a number of files stored in a folder. Two of those files are mandatory:

The first one is functions.php, it is used to define functions, classes, actions and filters to be used by other templates in the theme. It can be used to add features and extend the functionality of both the theme, and the WordPress installation.

The second one is style.css, it stores meta-information and styles.

Both of them have to be present in your site root directory, in order for the site to work.

So, the Argenta Child Theme metafile has the following directive activated: “Parent:argenta”, which makes your WordPress use the Argenta theme files, except the above mentioned ones.

So now you have everything that the theme has to offer, but you use your own functions.php and style.css and those don’t get replaced after an update, which means you never lose your changes.

To make a change to the Child Theme, you need to replace your child theme file with the same one from the parent theme.

There’s the thing: you may edit any file except demo files and settings files, so changing them is pointless, they will get replaced after an update and you will lose your changes.

If you need to add some other settings, you can use ACF Pro.

How to enable ACF Pro: http://colabrio.helpato.com/argenta/article/theme-settings/how-to-turn-acf-pro-on-in-the-dashboard-menu

More info about it: https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/

2. WooCommerce has no pages after the installation

Do the following to fix this:

First, make sure that these pages do not exist since you could just not add them to the menu. Maybe you have skipped the installation of WooCommerce so the pages have not been created. But do not worry, this can be fixed easily. Go to Dashboard > WooCommerce > System Status, find the tab with instruments, click on Install Pages. Go through all the items that you will see there carefully.

Then everything will work fine.

3. How do I get a Google API key?

If you want to add Google Maps to Argenta, you have to get a Google API key. A how-to on getting it:

https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/get-api-key

Make sure that you select Broswer API key, since that's the key needed for Google Maps.

4. I don't want to update my theme to 2.0. How do I get the old version back?

Before you decide not to use version 2.0, you should know that this version contains many new settings, styles, templates and fixes. The old version v1.0.16 [May 31, 2017] will remain the latest version of the 1.* tree and will not be updated. If you've made very few changes or are preparing for a new project, we recommend using the most recent version. Then just follow these steps to return to the old version:

That will be enough to make it work as before. We hope that we did not cause you serious inconveniences with this update. Thank you for using our themes!

Sincerely, the Colabrio Team!

5. How to turn ACF PRO on in the Dashboard menu?

ACF Pro is a great tool for developers, who want to increase the capabilities of our theme. More info on how it works can be found by the following link: https://www.advancedcustomfields.com

In one of our recent updates we hid the plugin to avoid confusion among our clients, but, of course, you can get it back.

To turn ACF on in the Dashboard menu, you need to open 'argenta/inc/tgmpa/acf_setup.php' for editing. There you need to turn lines 3 to 6 into comments. When it is done, it should look like this:

/* function remove_acf_menu() {
  remove_menu_page('edit.php?post_type=acf-field-group');
}
add_action( 'admin_menu', 'remove_acf_menu', 999 ); */

In order not to lose your changes, you need to use Argenta Child Theme.

6. Demo Import Error. Time limit or 500 error

if the process of importing gets interrupted by a "500 internal Server Error", it means that there is not enough memory to process data. In order to fix this do the following:

1. Via FTP, your local file manager or the WordPress file editor go to the directory where your WordPress is deployed.
2. Open the wp-config.php file (located in WP root) with an editor.
3. Put the following code anywhere in the file.

ini_set('memory_limit', '256M');
ini_set('upload_max_filesize', '32M');
ini_set('post_max_size', '32M');
ini_set('file_uploads', 'On');
ini_set('max_execution_time', '300');

4. Save the file any try to import a demo again.

If your hosting provider is GoDaddy, then here is what you need to do:

1. Go the cPanel management page.
2. Under the Software section, click on Select PHP version.
3. Update the version to the latest one. (optional)
4. Click on Switch To PHP Options.
5. Change the memory_limit parameter to 256M or 512M.
6. Click on Save and refresh/re-enter the WP dashboard to verify.

7. How do I install a demo on my site?

To install a demo on your site, do the following:

1. Make sure that Argenta is installed and activated.
2. Install all the needed and recommended plugins (at the top of the page there will be a message with all the links)
3. Go to Dashboards > Appearance > Import Demo.
4. Choose the demo you want to install, click on the Import button below it.
5. WordPress will download all content that it needs for the demo, then you will get a message saying that everything has been installed.
6. The demo page will be set as your Front Page. If you want to change this, go to Settings > Reading and there you can set another Front Page.

8. Do I have to buy the plugins that come with Argenta?

No, you do not have to buy any of the plugins that come with the theme. If you get a message, that says "no license found", just ignore it ( click on "Never show this message again" ).

More official information on this: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/213762463-Bundled-Plugins

9. How to install Argenta?

To install Argenta you need to go to Downloads on Themeforest, find "Argenta - Multipurpose WordPress Theme", click on the Download button. You will get an archive with the latest version of Argenta. The archive contains the theme documentation, license, another archive with the theme and the child theme. We recommend extracting the archive with the theme somewhere else right away.

Now there are two ways to install the theme:

1. If you have access to your WordPress Dashboard and are allowed to install themes, do the following:

- Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes

- Click on Add New at the top of the page

- Click on Upload Theme on the next page

- In the upload window choose the .zip archive which you extracted from the Themeforest archive

- After you click on Activate Theme, Argenta gets installed and you can start using it

2. If you can't upload the theme via the WordPress interface, but can control files via FTP, then:

- Authorize yourself in your FTP client, go to the folder where your WordPress is installed

- Find the wp-content folder, go to wp-content/themes/

- Make sure that there is no folder named "argenta"

- Extract the contents of the .zip archive and put them into the "themes" folder

- Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes

- Find Argenta and press Activate

Once you have installed the theme, you will get a message that will ask you to install required and recommended plugins. We recommend installing and activating them first, since they are needed for the demos to work properly

Congratulations, now you can use our theme ! In addition we recommend articles on how to get your theme updated automatically ( https://argenta.ticksy.com/article/10062 ), and how to install demos ( https://argenta.ticksy.com/article/10076 ) .

10. How to automatically update the theme?

You do not have to download this plugin since it is included in our theme.

1. Choose the plugin in the Plugins > Installed Plugns menu and choose the option Activate, press Apply. Now you need to generate an Envato API token.
2. Go to https://build.envato.com/create-token/
3. Give your token a name, agree to the terms and click on the Create Token button.
4. Copy the token, go to your WordPress dashboard, click on Envato Market in the menu, paste your token in the Token line.
5. Click on Save Changes.

Congratulations. Now that you have the Envato Market plugin, you can go to Appearance > Themes and see if there is an update for your themes.

11. Content problems after a demo installation

If after installing a demo you see text with a lot of brackets instead of the content, then you must have not installed Visual Composer. In order to fix this you need to go to Dashboard > Plugins, find the plugin and press Activate. If the plugin is not in the list, then click on the "Install Required Plugins" which will be displayed in a message at the top part of the screen once you install the theme.

If after the installation you get an error message instead of Slider Revolution or a message like the following: [contact-7 404] instead of contact forms, it means that during the demo installation not all plugins were installed and activated. You can find more information on how to install a demo here: https://argenta.ticksy.com/article/10076

12. Portfolio projects shows 404

Usually, when WordPress is configured in a certain way, custom post types are not available by their links. It happens when the old permalinks are cached . To fix this you need to go to Settings > Permalinks and click on the Save button. Thus the cache will be updated with relevant data.
